Our proprietary soil mixes are a result of lab testing more than 100 potting soil blends and aggregates. Bonsai Jack bonsai soil mixes are optimized for pH, water absorption, evaporation, bulk density and particle size.

The soil mixes absorb a good volume of water and release more than half it over 24 hours. More than 80 percent of the water is released over 48 hours. This helps prevent wet feet and optimizes the wet / dry root cycle.

We understand the importance of trusted and safe bonsai soil mixes for your prized bonsai. Our bonsai soil products are backed by real science. You will not find us making claims such as "pH neutral". We do not use fuzzy math(measuring with cups, dry quarts or nursery pots) when measuring soil for packaging. Our soil mixes are not simply created by throwing infested soil ingredients into a bucket. We source and process bonsai soils with professional standards.

  1. Question

    Jessie

Would this work for potting an avocado seed? I heard they need fast draining soil with a pH of 6-6.5. I’m nervous, but I am willing to try your brand again, even though the succulent soil killed my succulents and cactus (they didn’t take when transferred from the “grocery store” soil). Please help! I actually want to succeed with these!

Hello. Thanks for the message. Gritty mix is probably not a good fit. I would recommend using a high-quality potting soil or seedling mix. The selection will vary by state. Gritty mix is very expensive to produce and should be saved for plants that require it such as succulents and bonsai.

Have a great week. Please call or email if you have questions or concerns.

  2. Question

    Janet Vandenabeele

I accidentally bought a gallon bag of Mix #221 on Amazon last night. It’s already been shipped. Can I use this for succulents? Is there some way I can amend it? I’m afraid I won’t be able to return it without paying a big shipment charge but I also don’t grow bonsai. Thanks.

Thanks for the message. No worries. Returns are free and easy. 221 is very dry. It will work with some succulents such as desert rose but not all. Please return the product if in doubt.

Have a great weekend. Please call or email if you have questions or concerns.
